Countdown to SXSW

In exactly one week from today I will be hopping on a plane on my way to the annual South by Southwest festival! This will be my first time going and I can’t wait! Going to SXSW is like making a sacred pilgrimage for designers. There are so many incredible speakers, presentations, meet ups, and demonstrations to attend. I’ve been making my schedule over the last few days, and I’m quite sure that I’ve overbooked myself for every single time slot all week! The amazing design talks alone are enough to make a design nerd like me swoon. The many sessions I deliriously hope to make it to cover topics such as color theory, prototyping, branding, app design, women in tech, data visualization, and so much more.

In addition to the design sessions, SXSW give you the opportunity to attend talks about virtually anything that might interest you. Since I am very involved with my thesis project Dear She still, I can’t wait to take advantage of the sessions on self publishing, female empowerment, online bullying, body positivity, and women in leadership roles. And of course, you don’t go to SXSW and not have a crap ton a fun. So also on my schedule are sessions like SXSWesteros (cause I love Game of Thrones), a talk with Kerry Washington, Anthony Bordain, the cast of Broad City, and as many music and film events as my interactive badge will allow!

Obviously I have reached full nerd freak out levels in anticipation! And I will be posting about all my experiences, sessions I attend and hopefully posting a picture of me with Kerry Washington. And according to my coworkers, there WILL be a story about me riding a mechanical bull…we’ll see about that one. Check back in later for all of my adventures!
